Clarion Alley Mural Project 25th Anniversary & Block Party!

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS!

This year – 2017 – celebrates Clarion Alley Mural Project’s (CAMP) 25th Anniversary. So much has changed from our humble, scrappy beginnings when Mission District residents and artists Aaron Noble, Rigo 92, Tiana Pasztor, Mary Gail Snyder, Michael O’Connor, and Arcely Soriano decided to reach out to neighbors, businesses, and community elders to ask for their support to begin painting on the walls of Clarion Alley. Their notion, as told by Rigo 23 was that they didn’t want to go far from the city a few days out of the year to be really free and have a lot of fun, they wanted to be free and have a lot of fun right where they lived all the time.

Following several months of fundraising events, community outreach, and selecting artists, the first murals by Scott Williams, Tiana Pasztor, Isis Rodriguez, Mari Kono, and QR Hand, among others went up on Clarion Alley as part of the community effort to bring artists and neighbors together to connect with one another. It was a success, and over several years CAMP was able to gain permission from each of the property owners on the alley to allow the façade of their building to be painted as part of CAMP.

The evolution of the project 1992 – 2017 has been one of incredible successes:
